Is religion holding black people back?

We did a poll on our FACEBOOK page asking, “ Is religion holding black people back and keeping them oppressed?” In a landslide the people chose YES. Now let’s take a deep look at this poll. Why are BLACK people not feeling religion? Black people seem to be losing hope as the black community is still financially unstable, increase levels of crime/ violence, and the reign of white supremacy is on the rise. With lack of education, economic tools and also the lack of resources, have caused some to question what is the black church doing. With most black communities finding a church on almost every corner, it seems that loving religion isn’t fixing a damn thing in the community. The over all sentiment is less God and more solutions to fixing the issues in our community.

There is also more knowledge that has been coming forth. With more Egyptology info, many look at the beginning history. Many historians are documenting proof that many stories in the Bible have been stolen from Egypt. These historians have even gone so far as to say most of the stories in the Bible are made up and recreated from Gods of Egypt which has caused people to lose faith in the authenticity of the Bible. Opinions of many feel that religion was forced on black people by the white race as a way of control. Examples: Timothy 6:1-Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed. Colossians 3:22-Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. Ephesians 6:5– Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. -Titus 2: 9-10- 9 Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to please them, not to talk back to them, 10 and not to steal from them, but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in every way they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive.

The main thing is people are praying to Jesus, waiting to be saved, but not going and impowering themselves. It would seem the only one making out is the pastor. Many acknowledge the Nation of Islam as having systems in place to uplift black people. They have created schools and the concepts. But can black people deal with Islam? Until then, It seems people are starting to live by SITE and not FAITH!
